  13. FORGE is a TURBO Pascal and dBASE III programmer's aid. It allows the
  14. programmer to design data input forms or help screens, then generate TURBO
  15. Pascal or dBASE III source code for those forms. This source code can then
  16. be compiled and used as is for data entry, or it can be included as a
  17. procedure within a larger more comprehensive program. Since this is a
  18. utility for TURBO Pascal and dBASE III, a working knowledge of these
  19. programming languages is assumed.

  21. The concept of FORGE is somewhat analogous to word processing. With a word
  22. processor you can write, review, change, insert, delete and otherwise
  23. perfect your text before committing it to its final form. FORGE allows you
  24. to do the same thing with a data input form or information screen. Some of
  25. the outstanding features of FORGE are that you can: fill an area on the
  26. screen with color, without affecting the characters that are already on the
  27. screen, insert or delete lines from the screen, define areas on the form
  28. for entering data, define data entry areas as "String", "Integer", or
  29. "Real" data types, use IBM graphics characters to "draw" boxes etc., and
  30. use blinking characters.

  32. Although it is possible to create very colorful and "slick" looking screens
  33. with FORGE, dBASE III will not be able to reproduce a multicolored form.
